02Eligibility and accounts
2.1 Age requirement
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account and use the Service. If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or guardian before signing up, and they must agree to these Terms on your behalf where required.
2.2 Account creation
When you create an account, you agree to provide accurate and complete information. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately at security@lowlight.host if you believe your account has been compromised.
2.3 One account per person
Each individual may hold only one LowLight account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent plan limits, abuse the free tier, exploit the referral programme, or evade a suspension is prohibited and may result in all associated accounts being terminated.
2.4 Account security
We implement industry-standard security measures, including bcrypt password hashing and encrypted connections. However, we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for choosing a strong, unique password and not sharing your credentials with anyone.
03The service
LowLight Hosting provides managed Minecraft server hosting. We provision, maintain, and monitor the infrastructure your game server runs on. The Service includes:
- Minecraft server provisioning and management through our control panel
- DDoS protection via TCPShield
- Automated and manual backup systems
- A web-based server console, file manager, and settings panel
- Custom subdomain allocation (yourname.lowlight.host)
- An optional server discovery directory
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We reserve the right to modify, update, or discontinue features at any time with reasonable notice.
04Free tier
We offer a free tier with the following limitations:
- 1 server per account
- 2 GB RAM allocation
- 1 backup slot (manual or scheduled), retained for 1 day
- No SLA (service level agreement) guarantee
- No priority support
The free tier is intended for personal use and small communities. We reserve the right to impose additional limitations on the free tier, including but not limited to player count restrictions, plugin limits, or scheduled downtime windows, with reasonable notice.
The free tier does not expire and does not require a credit card. However, servers that have been inactive (no player connections) for 7 consecutive days may be automatically suspended. You will receive an email notification before suspension and can reactivate by logging in.
4.1 Earned server credit (ad-supported boosts)
We may offer optional ways to earn temporary server resources (such as additional RAM or server time) at no monetary cost — for example, by completing offers or viewing advertisements provided by third-party offerwall and advertising partners. Participation is entirely voluntary.
- Earned credit has no cash value, is non-transferable, non-refundable, and cannot be withdrawn, sold, or exchanged for money.
- Earned boosts are temporary and expire after the period stated at the time they are granted.
- Offers and advertisements are operated by third parties. We do not control their content and are not responsible for the products, services, or offers they present. Your interaction with them is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
- We may withhold or reverse earned credit where an offer is not validated by the partner, is reversed by the partner, or where we reasonably suspect fraud or manipulation.
- We may modify, suspend, or discontinue earned-credit features at any time without notice.
05Paid plans, billing and refunds
5.1 Subscription billing
Paid plans are billed in advance on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis. Quarterly billing receives a 10% discount; yearly billing receives a 20% discount. All prices are listed in GBP (£) and are inclusive of VAT where applicable. Payment is processed by Stripe — we never see, store, or have access to your full card details.
5.2 Upgrades and downgrades
You may upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time from your server panel. Upgrades take effect immediately. When upgrading mid-cycle, you will be charged a prorated amount for the remainder of the billing period. When downgrading, the new plan takes effect at the start of the next billing cycle.
5.3 Failed payments
If a payment fails, Stripe will automatically retry up to 3 times over 7 days. If payment continues to fail after all retries:
- You will receive an email notification after each failed attempt
- After 7 days, your server will be placed in a grace period — it remains accessible but cannot be started
- After 14 days without successful payment, your server will be suspended — data is preserved but the server is offline
- After 30 days, your server and its data may be permanently deleted
5.4 Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain access to your paid plan until then. After cancellation, your server will be downgraded to the free tier (2 GB RAM, 1 server limit). If you have multiple servers, you will be asked to choose which one to keep.
5.5 Refund policy
Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have a 14-day right to cancel your first paid subscription.
By purchasing a paid plan, you expressly consent to your server starting immediately, and acknowledge that you waive your full 14-day cancellation right once the service has been substantially performed. We define substantial performance as 36 consecutive hours of active service from plan activation.
- 0–36 hours from activation: Full refund available, no questions asked.
- 36 hours – 14 days: Pro-rated refund covering unused time only. Time already used is non-refundable as substantial performance has begun.
- After 14 days: Refunds at our discretion, typically only granted where the service has been materially defective. Mid-billing-cycle downgrades and cancellations take effect at the end of the current cycle.
To request a refund, contact hello@lowlight.host. This policy does not affect your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 regarding services that are not of satisfactory quality, not fit for purpose, or not as described.
5.6 One-off and temporary purchases
Temporary RAM boosts and temporary (fixed-term) servers are one-off purchases that are provisioned and begin immediately. At checkout you will be asked to expressly consent to immediate provision and to acknowledge that, once the boost or temporary server is active, the purchase is non-refundable and the 14-day cancellation right does not apply. This reflects that the service is supplied and consumed straight away.
This exception applies only to these one-off and temporary purchases. Recurring subscription plans keep the 14-day cancellation right described in 5.5 above. Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if a boost or temporary server is faulty, not as described, or not fit for purpose.
5.7 Refund abuse
We reserve the right to refuse refunds and to suspend or terminate accounts where we identify a pattern of refund abuse. Examples include but are not limited to:
- Repeated subscribe–cancel cycles designed to exploit the 36-hour full refund window;
- Fraudulent chargebacks initiated through a payment provider rather than via our refund process;
- Using multiple accounts to repeatedly claim refunds;
- Any other attempt to circumvent the spirit of our refund terms.
Where an account is suspended for refund abuse, no further refund obligation applies and outstanding balances remain due. Genuine first-time refunds are always honoured — this clause exists to protect against repeated and intentional misuse.
5.8 Price changes
We may change our plan prices from time to time. Any price change to an existing recurring subscription will be notified to you by email at least 30 days in advance and will only take effect from your next billing period after that notice. If you do not agree to a price change, you may cancel before it takes effect under clause 5.4 and you will not be charged the new price. Introductory or promotional prices apply only for the stated period; unless we state otherwise, your plan then renews at the standard price for that plan in force at the time. Changes to the price of new purchases take effect when published and do not affect a subscription period you have already paid for.
06Acceptable use
You agree to use the Service lawfully and responsibly. The following activities are strictly prohibited:
- Illegal content or activity — hosting, distributing, or facilitating any content that is illegal under the laws of England and Wales, including but not limited to child sexual abuse material, content inciting terrorism, or content promoting violence against individuals or groups.
- Harassment and abuse — using the Service to harass, threaten, stalk, or abuse any individual.
- DDoS or network attacks — launching denial-of-service attacks, port scanning, or any form of network abuse from or through our infrastructure.
- Malware distribution — hosting or distributing viruses, trojans, ransomware, or other malicious software.
- Piracy — distributing copyrighted material without authorisation, including pirated Minecraft clients, stolen plugins, or cracked software.
- Cryptomining — using server resources for cryptocurrency mining or any purpose other than running a Minecraft server and its associated tooling.
- Excessive resource abuse — intentionally consuming resources (CPU, RAM, bandwidth, storage) significantly beyond what is reasonable for your plan, in a way that impacts other users on shared infrastructure.
- Reselling — reselling, subletting, or commercially redistributing LowLight server resources to third parties without written permission.
- Automated account creation — using bots, scripts, or automated tools to create accounts, exploit the free tier, or abuse any feature of the Service.
We reserve the right to determine, at our sole discretion, whether any activity constitutes a violation of this policy. Violations may result in immediate suspension or termination without notice.
6.1 Minecraft and Mojang rules
LowLight provides server hosting; it does not provide the Minecraft game itself, which is owned by Mojang Synergies AB and Microsoft. You are responsible for running your server in line with the Minecraft End User Licence Agreement and Mojang's Commercial Usage Guidelines and brand guidelines. In particular, you must not monetise your server in any way Mojang prohibits, must not imply that your server or LowLight is official, endorsed by, or affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft, and must take reasonable steps to ensure players connecting to your server own a legitimate copy of Minecraft. LowLight is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Mojang or Microsoft. Breaching Mojang's rules is a breach of these Terms, and we may act on valid reports from rights holders.
07Server content and data
7.1 Your content
You retain full ownership of all Content you upload to or create on your Server, including worlds, configurations, and plugin data. We do not claim any ownership or licence over your Content, and we do not use it to train AI models.
7.2 Content responsibility
You are solely responsible for all Content on your Server. We do not pre-screen or monitor Content, but we reserve the right to remove Content that violates these Terms or applicable law if we become aware of it or receive a valid complaint.
7.3 Backups
Backups are not automatically enabled by default. You can create manual backups at any time from your server's control panel, or configure scheduled automated backups at any frequency you choose. The number of backup slots available depends on your Plan; the timing and schedule of those backups is entirely up to you.
When all available slots are in use, creating a new backup will replace the oldest one. You can also delete individual backups manually at any time.
Even when scheduled backups are configured, backups are provided as a convenience and not a guarantee. We strongly recommend maintaining your own independent backups of critical data. We are not liable for data loss resulting from missing or misconfigured backups, backup failures, hardware failures, or any other cause.
7.4 Data on termination
Upon account termination (whether by you or by us), your server data will be retained for 14 days to allow you to download it. After 14 days, all server data including worlds, configurations, backups, and logs will be permanently deleted. Paid plan payment records will be retained for 6 years as required by UK tax law (HMRC).
7.5 Account deletion and right to erasure
You may request deletion of your account at any time from your account settings. When you do, we will promptly anonymise your public profile and unpublish any content you have made public (such as Bundles and reviews), and your account will be scheduled for permanent deletion after a short recovery window.
Certain records must be retained after deletion where we are legally required to keep them — in particular, billing and transaction records are retained for 6 years to comply with UK tax law (HMRC). These retained records are not used for any purpose other than legal compliance. For full details of what we keep and for how long, see our Privacy Policy.
08Intellectual property
The LowLight name, logo, branding, website design, and all original content on the Service are the intellectual property of LowLight Hosting and are protected by copyright. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our branding or website content without written permission.
"Minecraft" is a trademark of Mojang Studios / Microsoft Corporation. LowLight Hosting is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or in any way officially connected to Mojang or Microsoft.
09Data protection and privacy
We take data protection seriously and comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Full details of how we collect, process, store, and protect your personal data are set out in our Privacy Policy. Key points include:
- We collect only the data necessary to provide the Service
- Your data is processed on infrastructure located in the United Kingdom and European Union
- Payment data is handled by Stripe and never stored on our servers
- You have the right to access, correct, delete, export, and object to processing of your personal data
- Data subject requests can be submitted by emailing privacy@lowlight.host
- We will respond to all data subject requests within 30 days
9.1 Third-party data processors
To provide the Service, we share necessary data with the following third-party processors:
- Supabase (auth and database hosting) — EU/UK data centres
- Stripe (payment processing) — PCI DSS Level 1 certified
- Cloudflare (CDN, DNS, DDoS protection) — global edge network
- TCPShield (game server DDoS protection) — UK/EU
- Resend (account & transactional email) — EU/US
- PostHog (product analytics & error tracking, loaded only with your cookie consent) — EU
Each processor is bound by data processing agreements. No personal data is sold to third parties.
10Referral programme
LowLight operates a tiered referral programme that rewards users for inviting new paying customers.
10.1 Commission
- You earn 10% of every payment made by users who sign up through your referral link, recurring for as long as they remain on a paid plan.
- Commission is calculated on the actual amount paid after any promo codes, sales, or discounts have been applied, and excluding VAT.
- Earnings appear as pending credit immediately, and become confirmed after a 7-day hold to allow for chargebacks, refunds, and fraud checks.
10.2 Tier system
All users start at Standard tier. Higher tiers unlock additional features:
- Standard — Default. Earn 10% commission, use credits at checkout on any plan.
- Pro — Unlocks automatically once you have earned £25 in confirmed credit (lifetime). Adds the ability to transfer credit to other LowLight users.
- Creator — Application-only via our Discord support channel. Reserved for content creators, streamers, and community leaders. Adds cash withdrawal (via bank transfer, minimum £20), a custom referral slug, and may include a negotiated higher commission rate. We review applications based on audience, reach, and brand fit, and reserve the right to accept or decline at our discretion.
10.3 Conditions
- Credit can be applied to your own invoices. Pro and Creator tiers may also transfer credit to other users. Only Creator tier may withdraw as cash.
- Self-referrals (referring your own additional accounts) are prohibited and will result in forfeiture of all accrued credit and possible account termination.
- If a referred user is refunded, the related referral credit is reversed proportionally.
- Confirmed credit does not expire, but cannot be exchanged for the original payment method.
- We reserve the right to modify the referral programme terms, commission rate, or tier requirements at any time with 14 days' notice.
11Server discovery and reviews
The Server Discovery page allows eligible servers to be listed publicly. By opting in:
- Your server name, description, version, player count, and connection address will be publicly visible
- Other users may leave reviews and ratings on your listing
- All reviews are moderated and must be based on genuine gameplay experience
- We reserve the right to remove reviews that are abusive, fraudulent, spam, or otherwise in violation of these Terms
- Each user may submit one review per server listing
We do not guarantee the accuracy of any user-generated reviews or server information on the Discovery page.
12Bundle marketplace and creator profiles
The Bundle marketplace allows users ("Authors") to publish reusable server configurations ("Bundles") that other users may deploy to their own Servers. Public creator profiles display an Author's published Bundles and aggregate statistics such as deploy counts and average ratings.
12.1 What a Bundle is (and is not)
A Bundle is a configuration manifest. It records the names, versions, and sources of third-party plugins together with configuration values. LowLight does not host, store, or distribute the plugin software itself. When a Bundle is deployed, the corresponding plugin files are fetched at deploy time from their original sources (for example Modrinth or other repositories) under those sources' own licences. We do not modify, repackage, sell, or claim ownership of any third-party plugin.
12.2 Author responsibilities
If you publish a Bundle, you represent and warrant that:
- You have the right to reference and configure the plugins it includes, and doing so does not violate any plugin's licence or the rights of its author;
- The Bundle contains no malicious code, backdoors, crypto-miners, or instructions intended to harm a Server, its players, or the Service;
- Configuration values, descriptions, and version claims are accurate and not misleading;
- The Bundle does not facilitate breaches of the Minecraft EULA, including pay-to-win mechanics that sell in-game advantages for real money.
You retain ownership of the original configuration values you author. By publishing a Bundle publicly, you grant LowLight and other users a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, deploy, and use that Bundle within the Service.
12.3 Deploying community Bundles
Community Bundles are provided by their Authors "as is" and without warranty. LowLight does not author, endorse, vet, or guarantee any community Bundle, and is not responsible for the behaviour of third-party plugins fetched during deployment. You choose to deploy a Bundle at your own discretion and remain responsible for your Server's Content under section 7.
12.4 Plugin auto-update
Where auto-update is enabled for a Bundle or Server, the Service may periodically fetch newer versions of referenced plugins from their sources. We do not control the content of third-party updates and are not liable for changes in plugin behaviour, breakage, data loss, or incompatibility introduced by an update. You may disable auto-update at any time from the Server Manager, and we recommend keeping recent backups.
12.5 Reviews and public profiles
Users may leave reviews on Bundles, and Author profiles are publicly visible. Reviews must be based on genuine experience, with one review per user per Bundle. We may remove reviews, Bundles, or profiles that are abusive, fraudulent, spam, or otherwise in violation of these Terms. We do not guarantee the accuracy of any user-generated content.
12.6 Reporting and takedown
Any Bundle, review, server listing, or profile can be reported through the in-product report tools or by emailing abuse@lowlight.host. We review reports within a reasonable time and may remove content, delist, or suspend or terminate accounts that infringe intellectual property, contain malware, or otherwise breach these Terms. Rights holders who believe a Bundle infringes their work may submit a takedown notice to abuse@lowlight.host identifying the work and the allegedly infringing content; we operate a repeat-infringer policy and act on valid notices.
13Availability and uptime
13.1 Target availability
We target 99.9% uptime for paid plans, measured monthly and excluding scheduled maintenance. The free tier is provided on a best-effort basis with no uptime guarantee.
13.2 Scheduled maintenance
We will provide at least 24 hours' notice before planned maintenance that may cause service interruption. Maintenance windows will be communicated via email and the system status page at lowlight.host/status.
13.3 Force majeure
We are not liable for service interruptions caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, acts of government, internet outages, power failures at data centres, cyberattacks of unprecedented scale, or failures of third-party providers.
13.4 Beta and experimental features
From time to time we may make features available on a beta, preview, or experimental basis (for example, server discovery, the Bundle marketplace, plugin auto-update, or new panel tools). These are provided “as is” and “as available”, may be incomplete, may change or be withdrawn at any time, and are excluded from any uptime target or SLA. We may also impose usage limits on beta features. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected, but to the fullest extent permitted by law we give no other warranties in respect of beta features.
14Suspension and termination
14.1 Suspension by us
We may suspend your account immediately and without prior notice if:
- You violate the Acceptable Use policy (Section 6)
- Your server is involved in illegal activity
- Your account is used in a way that threatens the security or performance of our infrastructure
- We receive a valid legal request from law enforcement
In cases of suspension for Terms violations, we will notify you by email and provide an explanation. You may appeal a suspension by contacting hello@lowlight.host.
14.2 Termination by you
You may close your account at any time through the account panel or by contacting support. Account closure will cancel any active subscriptions at the end of the current billing period. Your data will be retained for 14 days following closure, after which it is permanently deleted.
14.3 Termination by us
We reserve the right to terminate your account permanently for repeated or severe violations of these Terms. We will provide at least 7 days' notice before termination unless immediate action is required for legal or security reasons.
15Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising from or related to the Service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £100, whichever is greater.
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, loss of goodwill, or interruption of gameplay.
- We are not liable for data loss resulting from hardware failure, software bugs, user error, or circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
16Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LowLight Hosting from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:
- Your use of the Service
- Content you host on or distribute through your Server
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any applicable law
- Any dispute between you and a third party relating to your Server
17Dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Before initiating formal proceedings, both parties agree to attempt to resolve disputes in good faith through direct communication. Contact hello@lowlight.host to begin this process.
If you are a consumer, you may also be entitled to use the Online Dispute Resolution platform or refer disputes to your local Trading Standards office.
18Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes:
- We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
- We will notify registered users by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect
- We will post a notice on the website
Continued use of the Service after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you may close your account before they take effect.
